Ronald McDonald House Central Alberta

Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta is prominently located facing the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and backing on to Gaetz Avenue.

The new House in Red Deer is an independent charity, owned and operated by Southern Alberta Pediatric Hostel Society.

A feasibility study was conducted to evaluate the need for Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer. The study revealed that there are 33,000 pediatric stays at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre per year. One third or 11,000 of those children are from out-of-town. That’s an average of 30 out-of-town childrenper day.

Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta will primarily support sick children and their families from rural communities surrounding Red Deer. Families must live out of the city limits of Red Deer in order to qualify to stay at the House. Also, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. the House’s programs and facilities will also be available to Red Deer families.

Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta will also be a home away from home for women with high-risk pregnancies or “antenatal” patients. They will stay at the House, in close proximity to the hospital, while they wait for their babies to be born. After the birth, they may stay at the House for a longer period of time if the baby has complications. There is an average of about 500 antenatal patients per year that need to be close to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre as their delivery date approaches.
