United Way of Central Alberta Encourages You
To Support Change in Your Community
Over 400 people were on-hand to help United Way of Central Alberta kick off this year’s annual fundraising campaign at the Sheraton Hotel. The annual Kick Off Luncheon marks the start of the four-month fundraising drive to raise money for services and programs that help one in three Central Albertans each year.
Campaign co-chairs Councilor Buck Buchannan, and John Knoch were joined by other volunteers and local celebrities in announcing the 2012 campaign goal of $1,990,000. “The fact that one in three people are helped by United Way every year means that there were people that attended the luncheon who have directly benefited by the community’s support. People are beginning to realize that change is made in our community, by people who live and work in Central Alberta and that’s one of the best things about United Way; the impact is right here in Central Alberta. Just last year, over 107,000 people were helped by programs and services supported by United Way,” stated John Knoch. “Those who attended this year’s event are showing their fellow co-workers and community members their commitment to creating a strong and healthy community for themselves and their family.” concluded Buck Buchannan.
United Way of Central Alberta’s CEO Robert Mitchell, who was new to the organization last year at this time, was not surprised by the enthusiasm in the room. “It is invigorating to see our greatest supporters gather together and get excited about campaign. They understand that together in numbers they can have such a strong impact in Central Alberta. It really is a great sight to see everyone gathering at one time around a single cause.”
Each year, United Way mobilizes the power of Central Alberta’s volunteer, financial resources and people from all walks of life in the months from September to December, to achieve common purpose, ensuring that services are available to anyone who needs them. The dollars raised during the campaign are allocated, by community volunteers, to programs and services who provide strong and lasting impact in Central Alberta.
Established in 1965, United Way of Central Alberta is a charitable organization working to improve lives and build resilient communities by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action.
